About

Hello, I’m Sheila

For over 15 years as an award-winning event and product designer, humbled to have been featured on ABC Good Morning America, NBC The Today Show, People, Town and Country, and Parents magazine, my life’s passion, and work has been devoted to creating personally tailored experiences for others.

As a mother of three, wife, and homebody, I know personally the benefit of bringing the intentional design and experiences I created for my clients into my own home and family. By sharing intuitive ways to feel comfort at home, entertain, welcome guests, and care for yourself and others throughout the seasons, my mission for Northing Co. is to inspire you to do the same.

Born and raised on the Lake Michigan shore, I am constantly inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds us. I’ve found that the changing seasons inspire a natural rhythm that, like our favorite traditions, gives us something new yet familiar to look forward to.

When I’m not writing, designing, or dancing in the kitchen with our family of five, you can find me walking on the lakeshore looking for stones, hosting family and friends at home, making charcuterie while sipping on sauvignon blanc, or ambitiously trying to keep my plants alive.

five Fun Facts

  1. I’m an enneagram 4 with a 3 wing, and a water sign which fits my personality perfectly. Do you know yours?
  2. I lived and worked aboard a private yacht in the Bahamas and the Caribbean like the reality show Below Deck. This experience began my career as a professional event designer.
  3. I believe the most incredible opportunities and experiences come from keeping an open mind, trusting your intuition, and being vulnerable enough to succeed and fail in trying new things.
  4. I met and married my best friend in a little village on Lake Michigan. Every time we go back, it feels like no time has passed. We have three beautiful babes that range in age from 19 to 6 yrs. which makes parenting very exciting!
  5. My favorite quote is “Be what you are. Give what is yours to give. Have style. Dare.” -Stanley Kunitz.
Now more than ever should we never take for grante Now more than ever should we never take for granted the comfort of a safe and healthy home.
True north is a constant in an ever-changing world True north is a constant in an ever-changing world. An intuition that carries you through the journey and makes you feel at home wherever you are in life. A moral compass that brings peace and perspective in a time of need and ignites a feeling inside that all is well within your world. For some, finding their true north is easy and natural. And for others, it’s a journey. One thing is for sure, once you discover yours, you’ll want to embrace it in all you do.

This is your friendly PSA to squeeze some time for This is your friendly PSA to squeeze some time for yourself today before tonight's Super Bowl festivities. I've found just a little TLC makes such a big difference in how I start the week. Some of my go-to rituals include journaling, soaking in an oil-infused salt bath, refreshing my nails, and putting on a good face mask. This is usually an evening practice but today I'm getting them in before the game so I don't miss out. Plus I'm hoping it nurtures me through what will surely be a late night.

Tell me what are your favorite ways to treat yourself? And be honest, are the halftime show previews bringing back all the high school memories?! I can't even wait!!!! Happy Sunday!
There's art that is meant to fill a wall and then There's art that is meant to fill a wall and then there's art that is intuitive. If you have a mix of both in your home, you're on to something. I'll be honest, I love a good Target find that perfectly ties a space together, paired with one-of-a-kind vintage pieces that evoke a mood. And then there's the fate or destiny pieces. The ones that become part of you. The most valuable art I own was $5 but is priceless and here's why.

70 some years ago my grandmother saved this lovely artwork of a robin you see here in its nest from a magazine. Sadly, she passed shortly thereafter when my dad and aunt were little babes and the artwork, along with her other personal mementos were stored away.

Decades passed by before I was introduced to these items but when I was, I instantly felt a connection to the artwork. So much so that I created this tableau to photograph and keep for my own. I just love how the artwork, her pen, the ink jar, the carefree image of her as a young woman, and the sweet smile of her as a child, all come together beautifully. It breaks and warms my heart at the same time.

A few months after taking this photo, I circled through my favorite local resale shop in search of the perfect treasure but was unsuccessful. Or so I thought. Just as I walked towards the door to leave, I caught a glimpse of a stack of frames sitting on the floor behind the front desk. For reasons I can't explain, I turned and asked to see them. And it was there in the middle of this pile of frames, an original print of the robin artwork my grandmother had saved decades before had come into my life. I still get chills.

This print is now a priceless treasure in our home. Not because I'm particularly passionate about robin art, but because of its origin and how this piece found its way to me. Every time I see it, it reminds me just how close our angels are and how important it is to be open to the gifts they send our way. Curating meaningful art in your home can be a daunting task but if you take time to find pieces that truly resonate, there will be no other place that feels more like home.
Monday, the gift of a fresh start. When we fall ba Monday, the gift of a fresh start. When we fall back into routine and goals are tackled with refreshed perspective from the weekend. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love a full house, staying up too late binging Netflix, sleeping in with the kids, and the spontaneous adventures the weekend brings. But, I crave structure more than ever these days. How about you? Do you love or loathe Monday?
Welcome, my friend! I’m Sheila and I’m honored to Welcome, my friend! I’m Sheila and I’m honored to introduce you to Northing Co., a lifestyle brand inspired by the comfort of home, the changing seasons along the lakeshore, the joy in connection, the sentiment of tradition and the desire to live authentically.

The term “northing” came to me at a time when I felt the need to keep moving forward with intention while surrounded with uncertainty. Inspired by an internal compass, a true north if you will, I began exploring ways I could bring comfort and peace into our lives when everything else felt out of place. By doing so, I discovered easy practices that made our home feel like a haven, our time together anticipated and valued, and rituals that renewed what the state of the world was stripping away.

The secret is simple. Small, intentional details that invigorate the senses, create a lasting and significant moment. For over 16 years as an award winning event and product designer, my life's passion and work has been devoted to delighting people with special and tailored experiences. By sharing an intuitive and authentic approach to how you decorate your home, entertain friends and family, care for yourself and others throughout the seasons, my hope is to help you do the same.
